Screening and testing strategies
Screening testing identifies infected people, including those with or without symptoms who may be contagious, so that measures can be taken to prevent further transmission. Screening testing can help promptly identify and isolate cases, quarantine those who may have been exposed to COVID-19, and identify clusters to reduce the risk of infection.
This fast, cost-effective strategy allows for multiple people to be tested at one time. If a pooled test result is negative, then all the specimens can be presumed negative with a single test. A positive test means that each of the specimens in the pool will need to be tested individually to determine which specimen(s) is/are positive.
This point-of-care test is performed at the individual level when there is a reason to suspect a person could be infected. Convenient access to testing with quick result turnaround time decreases potential exposure to others.
About SDxLabs Molecular PCR Tests
SDxLabs uses PCR technology for COVID testing which is considered the gold standard in diagnostic testing. This is a chemical reaction that repeatedly duplicates certain targeted segments of the virus's RNA, until there's enough of it to be detected. The targeted segments are carefully selected to be unique to the COVID-19 virus, and thus absent from other genetic material that might be present in human respiratory samples. This means we can be highly certain that any reaction and duplication occurs only with genetic material from the COVID-19 virus, and that minimizes the likelihood of false positives produced because of the test reacting with some other biological material.
Specimen collection: Saliva or Nasal Swab
Saliva specimen collection:
This testing method is equally effective as the standard nasopharyngeal swab and offers an improvement because people can collect their own sample with minimal discomfort—simply spit into a sterile tube several times. Do not eat, drink, chew gum, smoke/vape or brush teeth for at least 30 minutes prior to collecting saliva.
Nasal swab specimen collection:
A fluid sample is collected by inserting a long nasal swab (nasopharyngeal swab) into your nostril and taking fluid from the back of your nose or by using a shorter nasal swab (mid-turbinate swab) to get a sample.
Sewage testing is a cost-effective strategy to measure population disease prevalence and provide trend data for an entire community. It can be successful in revealing infection dynamics earlier than diagnostic testing.
